Olga Speranskaya

Co-Director

I am a Co-director at Health and Environment Justice Support (HEJSupport), an international NGO that stands for deprived communities globally to achieve environmental and health justice. I am a UNITAR and UNEP expert and have a PhD in physics. In 2009,  I was awarded the Goldman Environmental Prize and was named a UNEP Champion of the Earth in 2011 for the work on chemicals and waste in Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia (EECCA) region. I focus on chemicals in products, pollution sources, gender and chemicals, and domestic and international chemical safety policy under four global chemical conventions, and SAICM. I pay particular attention to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Goal 12 on sustainable consumption and production patterns. My primary focus is on cleaner production, safer alternatives to chemicals of concern, informed substitution of toxic substances, and affordable, sustainable technologies to support sound chemicals and waste management in developing countries and countries in transition.
