Webinar on the future of ecolabeling in Costa Rica: An opportunity for national and regional commerce

After the development of the National Ecolabeling Program in 2019, Costa Rica has faced the challenge of promoting its use among the private sector and public procurement entities. In addition, Costa Rica, together with other countries in the region is promoting the Environmental Alliance of the America a regional ecolabel. Costa Rica is willing to increase communication with key stakeholders and inform about ecolabels and their role in sustainable public procurement (SPP) which is now mandatory in the national legislation.

Through the EcoAdvance project, of the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Finance, with support of the German Cooperation for Development – GIZ, the United Nations Environment Programme - UNEP and the German Institute of Applied Ecology – Öko Institute, an action plan has been designed in order to strengthen SPP and the use of Ecolabels. This includes trainings, webinars, infographics, posters, and other general informative messages distributed among public procurement platforms and private sector associations.

As part of these efforts, a webinar on “The future of ecolabeling in Costa Rica: An opportunity for national and regional trade” will be held on January 16th, at 11:00 am (-6:00 GMT, Costa Rica) in collaboration between EcoAdvance and the Chamber of Industry of Costa Rica.
